Hayter : The painter - The paintings - Stanley Wiliam Hayter (1901-1988) was not only a universally acclaimed printmaker, but also one of the great painters of the 20th century. A member of the Surrealist group as early as 1934, he exhibited his paintings alongside the most famous, and was soon unanimously recognized and appreciated by all his peers. Moving to the United States during the Second World War, he is considered one of the founders of the American abstract expressionist movement, whose most famous exponents, notably Jackson Pollock and William de Kooning, frequented his New York studio and were influenced by his work. This is the first book to show Bill Hayter's paintings from the 1920s to 1988. - Gourcuff Gradenigo - 2011
