Jean Vittet - Les Gobelins au siècle des Lumières. Un âge d'or de la manufacture royale - The iconography reproduces in color - mostly for the first time - a group of tapestries selected for their exceptional state of freshness: Antoine Coypel's L'Ancien Testament, Jean Jouvenet and Jean Restout's Nouveau Testament, Charles Coypel's famous Histoire de Don Quichotte and L'Iliade, Jean-François de Troy's L'Histoire d'Esther, Charles Parrocel's L'Ambassade turque, Jean-Baptiste Oudry's Chasses de Louis XV, Carle Vanloo's L'Histoire de Thésée and François Boucher's Amours des dieux. A collection of decorative painted models and sketches, including several spectacular cartoons of the surroundings by the flower painter Maurice Jacques, photographed after restoration thanks to sponsorship from the BNP Paribas foundation, tapestry-covered seats, paintings made on the loom and engraved plates from the workshops complete this evocation of the Gobelins at the time of the philosophers. - Swann - 2014
