BRILLIE. - Lot 7
BRILLIE.
Double-sided industrial hanging clock in steel, dial with Roman numerals, signed.
46 x 18 cm.
Founded in 1898 in Levallois-Perret by Lucien Brillié and Charles Vigreux, the company refocused on electric clocks after Vigreux's death in 1908, becoming Société Brillié frères run by Lucien, then by his sons and brother Henri after his death in 1911. Specializing in electric regulators, clocks for railroads, industry and government, as well as bells and time clocks, Brillié diversified and opened a workshop in Montbrison during the First World War to produce clocks and armaments.
After 1918, production returned to Levallois, but the Second World War prompted the company to relocate to Montbrison, in the free zone. The two sites coexisted after 1945. Despite prospering during the "Trente Glorieuses", Brillié was unable to adapt to electronics and Asian competition in the 1970s. The company was split up in 1981, the Levallois site closed in 1987 and the Montbrison site was sold in 1996.
