The LUTs (originally three in number) were umbilical towers - Lot 149
The LUTs (originally three in number) were umbilical towers (115 m high) used for Saturn V moon rocket launches. These fragments are the remains of the LUT-1 tower, which launched Apollo 11, among other missions, before being dismantled. The piece of red rubber comes from the large seal at the end of one of the tower’s arms (between 3 and 7 cm). APOLLO 11 - Crew: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins (July 16, 1969–July 24, 1969)
