Acrylic embedding block containing a sample of aluminized po - Lot 320
Acrylic embedding block containing a sample of aluminized polyamide film (3 cm x 2 cm) taken from an original multilayer insulating blanket (MLI) that covered the exterior of the Hubble Space Telescope. It was removed on December 24, 1999, from the door of compartment 10 of the support module during the 3A maintenance mission by astronauts Steven Smith and John Grunsfeld on mission STS-103. This material traveled more than 2.4 billion kilometers in orbit, from the launch of mission STS-31 on April 24, 1990 (Hubble’s deployment) to the landing of mission STS-103 on December 27, 1999. On the back of the block, a photo of the Hubble Space Telescope shows an arrow indicating the origin of this sample. Block measuring 11.5 x 9 cm x 2 cm thick. Limited edition, No. 28/75.
